has anyone seen this stuff? it has shot shaped like little 6 sided dice.  i stumbled across an add for this stuff and thought it was an interesting concept. im sure it just a fad and will probably too high priced for me to shoot and probably preform similar to the black clouds Saturn bbs but it is good to see that companies are trying to improve upon there shotgun ammo.

they had slides that showed it from an imp cyl, mod and full chokes but who knows.

i wonder how they make them? and how lead ones would preform.  i shot a couple boxes of the prarie storm this year and it knocks roosters down dead. no chasing them through the crp

More rounder is more better as it relates to shot.  Flats, edges, wings, blades, saturn rings, etc are all bad.  Any improvement made with lead or steel is all about the propellant or the wad, and to a smaller degree possibly the choke.

I'll say it again in case folks missed it the 1st time.  Round is best.  Every step away from perfectly round is a step in the wrong direction.

No thanks. I like my pellets passing through/ The less pellets I have to pick out of the breast, the better. I cant see how a cubed shape could possibly penetrate better than good old round shaped.

there have been a few studies on shot in the past  I have read that say its not so much weather its round or square or any other shape as long as its uniform in design so that it balances in flight i doubt very much these manufactures are spending all this money on making round pellets square if they do not think that there is a improvement over the original product and the potential to sell a better product to the public. So there should be no reason why these square pellets should not be devastateing when they hit after all would you like to be hit with a snow bakk our a jagged piece of ice

I know it would be expensive but why not the same concept as that of a golf ball.  I have heard a golf ball would barely fly a hundred yards if not for the dimples.

Might work with steel shot since it's poured into a mold.  Could maybe be done with lead shot after it's dropped you could line it up in a die and press-form the dimples in.  Overall, a golf ball is still a nearly perfect sphere through, no flats to allow "planing".  I think a big reason that dimples work on a golf ball is the amount of spin the club-face imparts upon the ball.  I haven't the 1st clue how much shot spins but my thought is that it spins very little (in comparison to say a golf ball) unless it's deformed.

as did i. shot a box of regular 4 lead in december. birds were flighty and killed plenty of roosters, had a few cripples as well. coincidently wen we all went to the store all they had for 3inchlead was the prarie storm and of the 30 the first day and 30 the second day it seemed that we consistently killed more birds dead with out crippling.

coincidenc .... maybe
better ammo.... maybe
better shooters as a whole.... no

Exception to round sphere shot "Hevi shot" (non-steel),oblong pellet shot, some pellets almost tear drop shaped, patterns excellent and retains as much if not more down range energy than lead and very few flyers outside a 30" circle at 50yds (I/M extended long range choke).Very dense, almost like a basket ball.

I've never shot or dissected one.  However, I'd place my money on a better wad before shot shape.

Snow, your thoughts?

When remington put this ammo out they re-invented this shot shell and did a hellofa job, pushed emviro metal to the wayside the 1st year, they used their own full shot cup (not a two piece),shot buffer and nitro primer and built the plat form for the best non-tox shotgun ammo on the market today, maybe even better than lead in my book~Not sure why remington lost the distrubtion rights tho? maybe it was a short term deal to get this product going, but the pellets are far from being round, they are made up of tungsen iron, nickle and tin, there for the shot density and weight=down range energy more so than any steel shot and using a smaller diameter pellet putting more pellets on target at a price, its not for everyone and for over dekes close in its an over kill.

The best of both worlds is Hevi Metal, this load competes with other hi-end ammo on the market in price but is a combination of steel shot and smaller diameter tungsen (20% more pellets compared to all one size)even the tungsen pellets are not perfectly round but the ammo patterns beautifully when paired with the right choke.

Changes are in the works from enviro metals hevi shot loads, one being a new shot cup as you say and a new shot hull/primer to maximize performance even more.

When I get some samples Clay I'll send you a few rounds to check out if your interested.
