just bought a box of winchester power max bonded 7mm mag from walmart on sunday night....  went out to shoot on tuesday night, opened the box of ammo and every fricken round in the box was rusted/corroded. primers are all tarnished and these look like they are piss-poor reloads....  anyone ever had anything like this happen?  i'm fixin to write winchester an email with some pics to see what they say.

I would probably blame Wal Mart!

You have to be careful buying ammo off the shelf.  I have heard and witnessed many victims of the "switcheroo".  I have even heard folks bragging in the pub about switching regular ammo with "premium" ammo.  Popped out of one box and into another at the store.  I prefer to buy my ammo from behind glass or behind a counter.

well this was behind the counter.... in fact i had to stand there at the counter  for 20 minutes waiting for someone to show up at the counter and gimme the ammo.... i got to thinkin that maybe someone bought it and let it sit in their truck or sumthing, but i don't think that most places will take returns on ammo.... then again walmart will take a return on pretty much anything......

Rifle ammo @ WalMart is behind the counter and all ammo is not returnable.  I'm guessing this would prevent a switcheroo.  That said, I have still seen this condition of ammo of the winchester brand, while working as a sporting goods sales associate at Wal Mart.  It must come from Winchester like that because the stock is rotated out often.

I would write Winchester send pixs of ammo and receipt showing time stamps.

Mention what area of the country your from and what time of year it is....make sure to ask for their public relations department to have them proof the letter to the editor you are going to send

Had a round of 7mm Winchester Ballistic Tip missfire. Was pretty sure it was a gun malfunction by the looks of the depth of dent the firing pin made on the primer. Sent it to Winchester anyway, and they sent me a box of shells with  a letter stating what I had thought was the problem after examination. Not in a negative way but trying to help diagnose the problem.

I was impressed they stood behind their product. Have had 3 boxes of these for years and only use a few per season and have never had any issues.

All I shoot is Winchester ammo because I'm a dumbass that believes that my Winchester firearms should be shooting Winchester ammo.  Anyways, in the 26 deer seasons I've been a part of, I've never had an issue with any of their ammo that I've purchased but then again, I've never purchased ammo from WalMart.  I buy most of my ammo from Runnings in Bismarck.

I absolutely never buy any ammo without opening the box and looking at it . I have used  Winchester ammo in my rifles for over 40 years and have never had an issue with a single round .

On the shotgun side I have used Federal for the same amount  of time , same result 100% for all those years.

You either had shells stored in the wrong place at Walmart or you were the victim of a switcharoo and the salesperson  taking them back never opened the box and looked at them .

Sorry to hear about your situation.  That sucks.  I always look at the ammo before I buy it.  The idea of having my face rearranged by an exploding gun just doesn't blow my skirt up very high.  That's probably why I started reloading.  Then I have only myself to worry about.
