When the wind is blowing in the North,no fisherman should set forth,
When the wind is blowing in the East, tis not fit for man or beast,
When the wind is blowing in the South,it brings food over the fishs mouth,
When the wind is blowing in the West, that is when fishing be the best...

Was out on audabon this am till the wind blew us off. Just as we loaded up, sprinkles started coming, will wet your windsheild just in time for the slowest setting on the wipers. Hope the temp drops fast enough to turn it to snow over freezing rain.

As for the fishing, 1 fish in 4 hours. No other bites.

Ran up to Skunk Bay to check the cabin and get a look if any ice was trying to form. Main lake is wide open and there were some rollers out there. Drizzled for a while at about 9 but blew out quick.  There was some ice back in the fingers and bays but today won't help any. We need a cold snap.

I was gonna do some ice fishing down at Beaver Bay this week but with this warm spell coming through I can't imagine the ice being to awfully safe. Anyone have an ice thickness report for that area?

I hit north golden on my way back to Carrington.  We caught a lot of small perch and a few eaters.  We tried getting across the lake with the ATV, but we could only go perpendicular to the wind.  Lots of water on the ice and no snow made it slick.  Good thing I had my YakTrax.  Chains on the ATV would have been nice.

A buddy texted me who was out pheasant hunting in the wind. When he got back to the truck the kennels were blown way out into the field and in pieces but upon their exit from the bed of the truck they shattered the back cab glass on his Tundra pickup and blew over the cab scratching hood up something fierce.

Now thats some wind!!

pigsticker,

WSWAT?  Dani and I were slated to hunt pheasants down in Flasher country but we said the heck with that idea.  Gusts to 45 to 55 is not pheasant hunting weather at all.  I think we made the right decision.  Yikes on the story you posted!

I drove across the embankment yesterday.  I should have seen crab boats on the horizon with the rollers out there.  It is wide open out that way obviously but what little ice did exist was all busted up and looked EXACTLY like Deadliest Catch ice rollers.  Was pretty freaky and I was on land going 70 mph.  Well sometimes...sometimes it was 55 and I had to hold onto the steering wheel for dear life.

I do believe I am going to have my brother plug my boat in and go see if Pouch ramp is clear of ice.  Never have I vertical jigged Shell Village or up the river out of the boat in January.  Although, it has been doable before but would have required Rainy River style of pushing a boat over the ice.

Yes I can say that I have never seen anything like it. We were on a walk for some pheasants and the wind was NUTS!!!!! The birds would hit that jet stream and were gone.
I parked out truck kind of in a dip and didnt think twice about the kennels as we made our way back to the truck everything was fine but then we saw a couple more roosters land in another spot so we headed over the hill to give it a try. As we were walking there were a few gusts that about knocked you over. As we closed the distince to the truck my buddy was like "Why are the kennels laying out in the field?" I'm like oh great this can't be good.
When we arrived it appeared that what happened was a gust of wind came from just the right direction and filled the kennel covers with air and turned them into missles. Shooting them forward into the back window of the truck. Shattering it in millions of pieces and then rolled over the roof of the truck putting a big scratch and dent on the hood as they passed. Needless to say the kennels were both trashed.

Was quite the sight.
