Agree I've seen several mechanisms froze up.  Flat tires can happen in bad places LOL!  Also, if you have purchased a used vehicle, make sure the tire tools and jack is there and in complete working order.  I found out I had no tire tools, luckily I had not needed them.

Always a good thing to check this time of year.  Several years ago I had a flat getting into a remote location out in the badlands about a mile from where I wanted to be.  No problem, so I hoofed it to get there before sun up and left the truck until later.  Came back a few hours later only to discover that the last person to wind the spare up had somehow got a kink, gravel, and/or a weird loop in the winch and the tire wouldn't drop.  I worked on it for about an hour until the rancher came by and helped me get it down, needed to use a long handled shovel to "pry" the tire down as another person lowered the winch.

Couldn't have done it by myself and I was a long, long ways from nowhere!

After having the spare ride around in the back for the winter though I did replace the tire hanger.  Cost about $120 just for the hangar.

A bottle jack or a bottle of Jack? ;)

The kill is the satisfying, indeed essential, conclusion to a successful hunt. But, I take no pleasure in the act itself. One does not hunt in order to kill, but kills in order to have hunted. Then why do I hunt? I hunt for the same reason my well-fed cat hunts...because I must, because it is in the blood, because I am the decendent of a thousand generations of hunters. I hunt because I am a hunter.- Finn Aagard

Both, then you're REALLY prepared for the worst!
