Bought some Barnes Triple shot 180 grain bullets for my 30.06 and looked at the website for Barnes reloading, and it says that IMR4064 is the most accurate powder for this load.  I already have some Winchester 760 which is a slower burning powder than the IMR.  Should I run out and buy some IMR4064, or should I just use the Winchester.  Here's the reloading page and the burn rate chart.

I have noticed in my 300wsm 180 barnes don't perform as well as the 165/168's.  There is a theory that you don't need as many grains in the lead free bullets and from what I have experienced there is something to that.  In my opinion (for what it's worth) I would return the 180's and get a box of 165's of the TTSX's and load them up.

Load up a few with the Winchester powder and see how they shoot.  Remember the manuals generally are shooting very long target barrels to get their data.  Not the usual hunting type rifle.  Maybe they will pattern great maybe you will have to go buy new powder.

I shoot 130's and 150's out of my 308, no reason to go heavier...

4064,4895 are your single base powders of choice. I would look at RL19 or RL17 as your double base.... I have had nothing but bad luck with any ball powder short of Accurate 2700,2460 and BLC-2

760 is a good choice and it meters well.  I have and still do run it in 270Win, 243, and 22-250.  FWIW H414 and WW760 are same/same.

In a 30-06, without a doubt, I'd return the 180's for 150's or 130's, no matter what size the critter.

Would 150 be big enough for elk, though?

There is no abiguity in "No Matter What Size the Critter".  I killed an elk during the park reduction with a .25 Caliber 100gn Triple Shock.  Boom..........and she never took a step.

shoot it as fast as you can  and the 130 in 06 150 in mags and then call the processor  way less meat destroyed   In 1/4 in out 1 1/4 inches through and through at 300 yds no issue.  100 gr in 25-05 and go get the game-same for the 06 130 gr and go pickup the critter
243 will just bounce off  does bruise them though.

I have been playing around a lot lately with my 300 win mag. The last elk hunt I went on I shot H4831 sc with 180 TSX. We are heading back and I wanted to add a dial system of some sort so it was a natural time to do more load development. The best group I got with 180's was just under an inch. I then tried berger VLD's in 185 grain. Best I could get was around an inch group. I started browsing the web and came across the tipped tsx bullet in the 168 grains. Wow did they perform. They have a higher ballistic coefficient than 180's  do and grouped like you wouldnt believe. 4 shot group with 3 shots in one ragged hole and one just under. Ran the loads through the chorno and average 3131. I am pushing the 168's with R-19 max load in my manual. My accuracy improved the harder I pushed these bullets.

I feel the 180's are a bit heavy for an 06. I like to push things fast. I would try 130 or 150's as mentioned above. Good luck with what ever you do and have fun.

If I already didn't have a damn good 300 mag load with IMR 4831 and TSX 168s, I'd work on TTSX 168s and RL-22.....I may work something up anyway at some point in time.  They don't bounce off......

I thought about trying some r-22 but had the 19 and found the speed and accuracy. I had such good luck with the ttsx I would like to try some in my other rifles but I have good load in the .257 and .270 weatherbys. The 257 loves 4831 and 100 tsx. My wife took a nice 5x5 muley last year and he didnt have a clue what it him.

4831 probably leaves 150-200fps on the table.  If you're not over 3500, you ain't there.  Mine W/25" of bbl creeps awful close to 3700.
