Anyone been catching any big walleyes on the red river recently?

I heard some guy caught a 14lb , 12lb and a 9 pound walleye yesterday.

How are the ice conditions?

will lower water levels create better fishing opportunities?

Yes. There has been a few nice walleye caught so far. I guess I wouldn't be suprised if there was a 14 caught, but I'm sure you're referring to the one in the picture gallery that went 13 and some change.

But anyhow, the ice conditions are still inconsistent with some places having 16 inches or better, and open water a short distance away.

Yes, lower water means less current and more fish.

Just use your noggin and be safe buddy.

I disagree on that being the only place on the red you can catch one like that....Legendary Backwater eddy released one bigger than that at the north dam in fargo when I was there about 8 years ago.

I'm going to be in Fargo this weekend and wouldn't mind trying this red river fishing I keep hearing about (I'm a missouri river-area native).  I only have a couple of questions for you guys.  1. Obviously there are going to be better places to find fish, but as far as regions go, are they north/south or doesn't really matter? 2. Are you still allowed to fish from shore regardless of the state your fishing license was issued?

I have to ask this....I live in Bismarck but live in Grand Forks for 24 years. We fished the Red all the time growing up as kids, but we would never have dared eat a fish caught from the river......It could have been because our parents just told us not to. Do you guys eat the walleyes caught from the red, and how do they taste?

I wouldnt fish anywhere near fargo on the red. Last week I was shore fishing with the big sticks about 5 miles from any dam. Head far south or far north.
