Okay, here it is. I am lookimg at purchasing a new boat for next year. I am looking at a 20-21ft boat. The brands I am looking at are yar-craft, Ranger, Triton, and Lund. The boat will be a fiberglass boat with a 250 merc on it. Which boat would you choose and why? Thanks for your in-put!

Judging by your name I'd go with a Triton? But really, after you buy a Ranger you can change your name.

Brand new or new to you? If brand new, why not go whole hog and get a 300 merc?  I mean, what the heck?!

My user name has nothing to do with the name of a boat. I recieved "triton" as a nickname in highschool. Thanks for your thoughts.

Lund holds its value better than most. However not sure about the fiberglass version.
Cant really go wrong with any of them, but being a lund boat guy that I am why would you buy anything else?

Yes it would be brand new. I would like an optimax, but still have not made my mind up on that either.

I fish in a number of locations from the great lakes to river systems. The number of people on board ranges from one to four.

The only thing that scares me with a lund fiberglass is rumors of gel coat cracking. I am not sure if anybody else has heard this?

It would be a horse race for me between Ranger 620/621 and the Yarcraft 209/219 TFX series boats.

The Ranger is a fantastic boat, great fit and finish with a great dealer network. The trailers are unmatched in reliability and looking good after 5-10 years of midwest highways and gravel. The are just good looking on and off the water. They sit low on the water and dont get blown all over.

The Yarcraft is IMHO a bit lower on fit and finish, lesser priced, and handles the bad weather better. The Yar is a bit faster equally set up as well. They sit fairly low on the water, lower than they look like they should. The factory backing of Yar is hard to beat, but the dealer network is lacking. I hate the trailers they come on; they now have gatorhyde coating, but the boat sits WAY high out of the water.

Make me chose 1 boat in 30 seconds with little thought and just my gut...... Yarcraft 219 with a 300 V-rod, full windshield, hydraulic jackplate, 9.9 prokicker, 101 Terrova, etc...

Tritons are fast as heck, Skeeters are supposed to be fast as well, but I know for a fact an older 200hp boat can smoke them in a tourney situation. Havent spent enough time in either for them to be a factor in my decision. They cant beat either of the above 2 choices IMHO.

Alot of my decision is based on a few factors.... Layout (personal preference for sure), speed when set-up as well as stability at WOT, factory backing (or how close factory is to me if major issues), cost (similar rigged Yar vs the comparable Ranger is approx 14k), and the fact that there are very few Yars for sale and get snapped up quick on the market, and I have been out in the Yar in the worst ND has to offer and they EAT bad stuff....

YES, I am that foolish!

First choice would be Ranger 621. Something like this only with a full wind shield.

Second choice would be lund Pro V 208 GL.

They all would be nice though.  I would look at them all in person and go with personal preference.  You are the one that needs to be happy with your new rig.

Would you by chance know what the speed or estimate of the speed would be if I did a 209 with a 250 pro xs and jack plate?

Great lakes and big water I would go with the Yar-Craft 219TFX and go with a Verado 300 Pro FourStroke...now if you are more the river and streams and more ND/MN waters I like the Lund 208 Pro-V GL with 250 Opti Max Pro XS.  it's a personal preference, I would get the Lund over a Ranger...but that’s just me however I think Yar-Craft hands down for big water not saying the other two can't handle it just say'in I would prefer to be in a Yar-Craft
