I need to get a new landing net for my boat.  Mostly walleye fishing.  Was thinking about a rubber one and just wondered if there are drawbacks to them.  Any recommendations appreciated.

Their life expectancy isn't as long as your coated tangle free netting. Don't leave them in the sun.

I had a rubber net and I hated it.  They don't move through the water quickly and when trying to move quickly bigger fish bounce on them like a trampoline.  Other than that, they dry rot in the sun pretty fast.  I should give a big thank-you to whomever decided to take the one I left behind @ the cleaning station above Bush's Landing on Oahe.

Beckman and don't look back.

Get an EGO S2 Slider, It is probably the easiest net to extend plus it floats!

yep. The  way they move through the water irritates the heck out of me.

Wife got me a Beckman walleye 4+3 for Christmas

I did quite a bit a of research and the most positive comments along with the least negative comments were all about the Beckman.

I don't remember the name of the one I have in the boat but really like it.  Seems to me I got it at Dakota Tackle about 6-7 years ago for around $80, extendable handle, the bottom lip of the rim is flattened and curved to work as a "scoop".  Great net, just bought a replacement rubberized net for it a few weeks back because it had a number of holes that were starting to be a problem.

It wasn't a floater when I got it but I took the extendable portion of the handle off and filled it with foam so it would float.

The only drawback to the net is that newbies in the boat like to default to using it upside down and they miss fish that way.  Otherwise, if you use the scoop correctly it tends to really nicely grab the fish.

I'd never go back to a "round" net after having this one!

X2.  I watched a guy try to land a small/medium sized northern with a rubber net one time.  I stretched and the pike slid through the holes twice.  About the funniest thing I ever did see.

p.s.  I will second the annoyance others have noted about the rubber nets.  Had one before and it was a trampoline for the fish as stated.

I'm the black sheep here I guess, but I love my rubber net.  It's a Frabill replacement.  I've never had the stretching/bouncing issue, we had a 15# northern last summer that was a bit exciting, but that I attribute to the size of the net.  While I will agree that it's not ninja fast in the water, but I have yet to have issue with it.

The thing I love most about it is you get zero tangles.  I replaced a Beckman with the rubber and could not be happier.  Hook tangles and fish getting wrapped up happened even with the Beckman, now the rubber is no issue.  I pull a lot of cranks so always untangling was a PITA.  I'd do rubber again no questions asked.

Over the years I think I've tried them all. From the most expensive Beckman to the cheapest Wal Mart. Last year I finally found one I really like. From Cabelas a flat bottom knotless dipped netting. Some nets are so deep you can't reach the bottom to get a fish out, others even nice walleye will get their heads through the netting and you fight to get them back out. Then I had a knotless that wasn't dipped, pure hell to get a crankbait untangled. Check this one out. Cabela's Custom Landing Nets

There's Beckman and there's everything else.  Just get a Beckman 4+3 and never worry about your net again.

A nice net for the money is the Frabill Conservation series.  If you want something deeper and with a beefier handle go with the PowerCatch Frabill of the size you want.

I had a PowerCatch for catfishing that had over 11 tons of catfish through it before it got dropped in the river.  I would call that decent quality.

I've been real happy with my Stowmaster the last 8 years.

Rubber nets are the Solyndra of fishing nets. So seemingly promising... but epic fail.
