By default, the sidebar on the home page will show all forum topics that have a display level of "Low" or higher AND are contained in a Forum that has a display level of "Low" or higher.

All topics are set to a display level of "Normal" when they are created.

To stop topics from appearing in the top discussions list, there are 2 options.

To Remove an Individual Topic
1.  View the forum topic you wish to remove
2.  Click the "Edit Topic" link - or "Edit Page" button
3.  Scroll down to the Display section and change the topics "Display Level" to "Buried"
4.  Save changes.

To Remove ALL Topics within a Forum
1.  View the Forum you wish to remove
2.  Click on the "Edit Forum" link - or "Edit Page" button
3.  Scroll down to the Display section and change the forums "Display Level" to "Buried"
4.  Save Changes

Note:  Topics will still appear with the Forums section of the web site and within the All Top Topics and All New Discussions lists.

Thanks,

Eric

Is this for all members?  Or do the site managers have to set all of this.

Will you work on a system so there is a tab for "Politics"?  How about extending that further so there is a tab for "Hunting" or "Fishing", etc?

The reason I ask is I don't want topics to just disappear from the nice easy top topic setup.  I want them to disappear from the "main" top topics but I want them to go into a political tab (those are the topics that mostly need to go).  Removing them from the top topics link all together will basically destroy participation.  I think it would be best to make a political tab.

Thoughts?

Part of the issue is width (we only have enough room for maybe 4 or 5 tabs and that depends on how long the title of each tab is)

Also - Right now, you have to remember that each time you add a tab, we are grabbing another 20 topic titles to render for every page which will slow performance a bit....

I think just splitting between Outdoors related and then "Other" or non-outdoors is probably sufficcient? - At least for the Top Topics tab...

thoughts?

I don't think width is an issue is it?  I mean, you can stack the tabs on top of one another giving you 6 to 8 tabs with a double stack.

If performance is that big of a deal maybe we can just give it a try and see how slow it is.  If it is bad we will just stick with "Other".

There are other options I have in the back of my mind but I will hold off until you think about what I said above.
