just a FYI for you that the fish cleaning station at Ft. Rice was shut down due to the recent cold spell.    Do what ya gotta do to abide by the law of draining  your livewell and taking care of your catch.

Would have been good if they would have let us take fish home in a cooler of water.  Cooler water would not be taken back to a lake. Just my thoughts on it.

Ice is expensive, I dont think there are any rules prohibiting transport of water in ND. You just cant do it in a livewell anymore...
Maybe someone "in the know" could clarify.

If $3 or $4 for 10# of ice is gonna make or break your trip you probably need to re-think the trip in the 1st place.

Ice is most likely the cheapest part of fishing.

I didnt mean ice is expensive like I cant afford it. It is expensive for what you get, and unnecessary. And if you go fishing 5-10 times a month it adds up. Worms arent expensive either, but I still catch my own instead of buying them usually....

For those of us in larger cities like Bis, I think Sams sells 20# for about 3.50

My plan for the river is take the cooler full of ice , drain the livewell then dump the ice over the fish, Dont ruin a cooler that way.

On Sak where I fish the stations are close enough to pull the plug as you are waiting to load and just driver up to the station

Tailrace cleaning station is also closed. It's been snowfenced on and off for a month now but I see yesterday they also put the "Closed" sign up on it so I'm assuming she's wrapped up for the season.

At Hazelton the fish cleaning station never closes because there is no water except the water that you haul to the station. Anyway I have a few 20 oz bottles that I keep in the freezer. I threw 5 nice fish in the cooler the other day with those bottles and a few ice cubes. No problem keeping those fish cold at all. At least at this time of the year. Remember the stations are open when it is warm out. The fish come out of cold water so it doesn't take a lot to keep them chilled. If you are worried about the cooler there are lots of cheap coolers that will hold fish. I just clean my cooler out with soap and water when I get home. The small bags of ice will keep lots of fish cold in a smaller cooler.

Take some used milk or water jugs and put some water in them (not quite full)  throw them in your freezer and make your own ice.

Old in Oldfisherman means OLD and I do a lot of my fishing in the evenings and get home late and too tired to clean the fish until the next morning so I dont use the stations.  I will try keeping some on ice overnight and see if they are still good.

ARE YOU A WORM CATCHER?
Are you Jewish?

Wonderful Reagan quote that says it like it is! "It isn't that Liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so much that isn't so."
