Devils Lake (Overview) - Friday, July 24, 2009

Well the fishing on Devils Lake continues to be stupid easy.

Fished a few hours on Wed eve and caught fish in all but 1 place I went to.  Had easy limit of 17-20 inch fish in short order.  Decided to pull crawlers in 25-37 FOW around some main lake structure.  That eve fish wanted the speed of 0.4-0.8 MPH.  2 oz bouncers with Northland baitfish blades worked best.  Then went to a main lake point and pitched cranks for awhile.  Fish VERY aggresive, faster the retreive the best.  #5 Shad Raps worked best.  Picked up some 13-16 inchers, with a half dozed over 16.

Thurs AM started on the main lake structure again.  A bit slower until I sped up the presentation to 0.9 -1.3 MPH.  Some nice fish caught, biggest just under 19.  Moved to the north sore of the main lake and pitched cranks for a bit.  Hit areas between weedbeds  and picked up 1 about 22 (deep hooked bad).  My daughter jumped in with me about noon, she had her limit in short order pitcing #5 Shad Raps on the windblown shoreline.  Her biggest fish to date was 23 inches, kept her limit of 17+ inch fish

Overall fun days. 

Hints.  The obvious fish the wind if you can.  Dont be afraid to try something different (you dont  have to be ON the structure to find fish),  fish snywhere from 1.5-50 FOW,   Work weedbeds like your life depends on it.   Dont be afraid to hit the same spot -5 times a day.... if not here now they most likely will be if they have been there in the past.  Pick up speeds of bouncing and crank retreives if slow isnt seeming to work well.
