Anyone ran across scams on craigslist ads???

I found a sweet car fo my daughter last evening.  Sent a resonse to their ad (odd since no names, personal e-mail addy, and no phone #).

No call or e-mail response last night.  This AM I get a bland, generic response from Lt. William Nelson thanking me for my interest, hoping I have not bought a car yet, and ha a photobucket link with more pics.  Phone # on the response seemed local, but never went through, just to a voicemailbox that had a womans British accent.  Reverse lookup shows a compay in Grand Forks.

Very laughable ESPECIALLY since there was another ad posted about 30 minutes ago that wa very eerily similar.  Same year car, lower miles, different color, different options with almost the exact odd low price....

Virus scan on comp is negative.

Anything to wory about?  I have been a victim of identity theft in the past; and 5 years to clear it up, 12 warrants and a few hours in the pokey make me a VERY wary man; doesnt matter private party  sale or purchase at businesses.  I am not stupid, just more woried about my computer and such.....

YES, I am that foolish!

I have noticed that quite a bit on Craigslist, especially in the Auto section.  I don't really know what the reason is but there seem to be more new vehicles with low miles for a ridiculously low price.  Pretty much learned that if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.  For that reason I really don't look at the autos anymore because it seems too congested with fake posts.
On the top of the page when you are in Craigslist, you can check the Spam/Overpost box and if enough people catch it, it will be removed.

I try not to buy ANYTHING online for that reason, but it is getting harder and harder to do.  Lots of companies offering huge discounts if you buy online (especially airline tickets).  They bait you to put your credit card numbers out there, but they accept no responsibility when your numbers get hijacked and you get in trouble.  Won't be long before you see more and more people doing business in cash only just to avoid the scams.

You mean to say you can still use cash, I didn't think that was acceptable anymore!

Yes there are alot of scams on craigs list. If it is too good of deal to be true  or free shipping on large items then it is probably a scam. I have made a couple of big purchases of the internet, (ktm 950 adventure, ktm 640 adventure). Before i did  commit to buy I got a name, home address, where they work or business they own. You can tell most crooks after a few phone calls. I sold my 06 ktm 950 adventure through a talk forum on the internet. I gave the guy all the information he wanted and he showed up from the U-P mich. 2 weeks later with cash.

Yeah, I am very wary.  They have nothing but my e-mail addy and my cell#.  No home addy, name, etc.  The only way they get tha is if I am face to face for a purchase and I get 3 forms of ID.  With vehicle purchases private sale  make the people verify their identity with 3 forms of ID,  reference the title VIN with the car and all of the info wrapped up with the insurance info with the car.

Cant be too safe.

I flag the items as spam on craigs, but it seems about 10% of the cars are scams.  I assume to get your e-mail addy to be sold to whomever.....  Holy spam will be coming now.

YES, I am that foolish!
