cleaning skum from boat

This is the first year my lund has spent the summer in the lake and not on the trailer. I know I will have to clean the skum off the bottom of it. Anyone have any experience with this and what worked best for you to remove it?

Wonderfoam is the ticket.  Do a search on the internet and find an online dealer.

Works great.

For a cheaper substitute get "The Works" tile and tub cleaner. Found that it took all of the scum off of my boat, I even did the bottom of the boat that hadnt been touched in 7 years and it is now sparkly white again. By far the best product I have used since owning a boat.

Yep, The Works is the ticket. Really any "soap scum remover" will do.

Wonderfoam runs a guy $9.00 for a quart of the cleaner and about the same for the wax.  The wax isn't needed but I highly recommend that as well.

Not sure how much The Works costs but I can garauntee your satisfaction with Wonderfoam.  Plus, the wax is so easy (spray on wipe off) and effective it's probably the best thing since sliced bread.

Give Russ a call at Boat Works in MAndan (663-3100). I see him doing this all the time, this time of year with all the pontoons coming off the water at "seasons" end. It involves a chemical and a pressure washer is all I know.

I have found that Westley's White Wall Cleaner works good. I have used it on my motor every year and it cuts the scum and any oil that collects on it very well. Hit the tires on the trailer while you are at it.

"purple power". You can get it at wal-mart and it's really cheap. I mixed it strong with scalding hot water and a little elbow grease and it worked like a charm.

I've been using vinegar for several years.  Wipe on, rinse, your done.  cheap does the job on devils lake skum.  Won't take off oil residue.

I have been using a product called Ducky.  I think it contains acetic acid (like in vinegar) and works real well on the Devils Lake scum.

White Vinegar is safe and eco friendly. Spray on boat , let sit, wipe off with rag.

Keep a 2/3 vinager to 1/3 water mix in a spray bottle in the boat, fog down boat after loading up..wipe off..spot and scum free.

This Vinegar mix also will de-funk your live well, coolers, bait buckets, ect.. and will not damage bait or fish.

Baked on hard water stains on a lower unit can be cleaned off with a shower cleaner, like "The Works". Don't use it on Mercury morots though, use a product like "Simple Green" on them or it will fade the finish.

star brite hull cleaner is the only thing that i will use. i spent many hours at carwashes trying to get the lake stain off my boat. i purchased a bottle of star brite and never looked back.

you can buy it at fleet farm. probably else where too. its only about 7 or 8 dollars a bottle. well worth the money if you ask me. its kinda strong, i would recommend some rubber cleaning gloves. they say to dilute it, but if you put a little on a rag or a sponge, the stain just wipes off. no scrubbing involved.

Be carfull with hull cleaner.  It can eat away at carpet and is tough on the hands.  I usually wear a latex glove when using this stuff.  It sure does the trick though.
